Description

Shadows Wake is one of those rare game-universe records that doesn’t feel like “music inspired by” a setting - it feels like it crawled out of it. PORT SULPHUR BAND sits in a fascinating space: part fictional storytelling device inside Hunt: Showdown 1896, part very real in-house band at Crytek. That overlap matters, because it’s what makes these songs hit with such conviction. The writing doesn’t just reference the bayou; it inhabits it - mud, superstition, swagger, and dread, all wrapped in dark western arrangements that nod to the birth of blues and jazz in 1890s Louisiana.

Across 20 tracks, the album reads like a string of campfire myths told by people who survived by being meaner, faster, or luckier than the Corruption. “Web of the Empress” is body-horror folklore with a twisted sense of inevitability, “Beneath the Apple Tree” is quiet resignation with a gunmetal edge, and “Curtain Call” leans into the grotesque theatre of a world that’s already lost its moral center. This is narrative songwriting built for Hunt fans, but it’s also a genuinely strong dark Americana record on its own - hooky, atmospheric, and heavy with character.
