Modal Soul is the second full-length studio album by Nujabes, originally released in 2005 on Hydeout Productions and widely regarded as one of the most influential records in instrumental hip-hop history. Expanding on the foundation laid by Metaphorical Music, this album refines Nujabes’ signature blend of jazz harmony, soulful melodies, and understated hip-hop rhythms.
Featuring contributions from Shing02, Cise Starr (CYNE), Substantial, Uyama Hiroto, Pase Rock, Apani B, and Terry Callier, Modal Soul balances introspective lyricism with lush instrumental storytelling. Tracks like “Feather,” “Reflection Eternal,” and “Luv(sic.) Pt.3” have become cornerstones of the genre.
This Japanese import edition is pressed on black vinyl and housed in a deluxe gatefold jacket with artwork by David Verba.
