Minyo Groove takes traditional Japanese folk songs - music once tied to everyday working life - and reframes them through the lens of postwar studio creativity, where Minyo collides with afro-latin rhythms, rock energy, rare groove textures, and funk-forward arrangements. Selected by DJ Yoshizawa Dynamite, this compilation digs into King Records’ storied catalog and pulls out gems that feel both rooted and radically reimagined.
The appeal is the contrast: familiar melodic forms pushed into bold, modern settings by skilled musicians, with groove-heavy production that makes these tracks hit like dancefloor tools rather than museum pieces. A key archival moment lands here too - The Peanuts’ “Ohara Bushi,” previously released only on tape in 1970, finally appears on vinyl for the first time.
