Description

This release marks a brand-new chapter in the acclaimed Wamono A to Z series, curated by DJ Chintam and dedicated to the deep, groove-focused side of Japanese music history. For Blow Up Trio, Chintam turns his attention to the vaults of Trio Records - one of Japan’s most respected labels of the 1970s, founded by audio manufacturer Trio Electronics (later Kenwood).

Active from 1969 until 1984, Trio and its sublabels (including Showboat and Trash) documented a wide spectrum of Japanese music, from jazz and fusion to soundtracks and experimental pop. Here, Chintam isolates eight standout recordings produced between 1973 and 1981, focusing on jazz-funk fusion, rare groove textures, and rhythm-heavy arrangements built around drum breaks, deep basslines, and bold horn sections.

Chintam’s curatorial voice is deeply rooted in experience. After years as a record buyer for major Tokyo shops, he opened Blow Up in Shibuya in 2018 and has since become one of the key figures preserving and contextualizing Wamono culture. This compilation reflects that knowledge - carefully sequenced, historically grounded, and designed to be played loud.

A focused, authoritative entry in the Wamono canon, Blow Up Trio highlights a lesser-documented but essential corner of Japan’s groove history.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ

Are these releases officially licensed?

Absolutely! All the music from our distribution partners comes with official licensing. Royalty from each your purchase on our website goes directly to the right owners, because we support the artists and their hard work. And we stand firmly against bootlegging and counterfeiting.

Is the vinyl color guaranteed?

Due to the nature of vinyl production, only releases with black vinyl can be guaranteed. As for colored or splatter releases actual vinyl record color may look a bit different since we use mock ups on the website. However, on the other hand, each of these records is unique and one of a kind.

What is a "pre-orders"?

When a product is labeled as "Pre-Order," it indicates that the item is currently in production and will be shipped at a later date. You can always find the estimated shipping timelines in the product description, just below the "Preorder" button. Keep in mind that some records may have limited Pre-Order availability and could sell out before they officially arrive in stock.

If your order contains both in-stock and pre-order items, we will ship complete order within the Estimated Shipping Date window noted on the product page.(In other words, you ave to wait for a pre-order to release before we ship out your order.)

Why there only "estimated shipping date"?

We usually receiving "estimated shipping date" from various suppliers and labels, because sometimes there is delays which beyond our or our partners control. We strive to keep these estimated dates as current as possible, but please remember that they are always approximations and not guaranteed delivery timelines.

What does Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4 mean?

Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4 refer to the four quarters of the year. We use this quarterly format to estimate release timeframes because vinyl production involves many variables -manufacturing schedules, shipping logistics, and quality control can all affect timing.

When we list a release as “Q4 2024 (November)”, it means we aim for a November release but leave room for potential delays. This approach helps set realistic expectations while keeping you informed.

Can I return a vinyl record if I don’t like it?

We got you covered in this one! If you’re not satisfied with your purchase, you can return it within 30 days for a full refund, provided it’s in its original condition.
